Who knew saving the planet could look so chic?
While fast fashion continues to thrive, often through unethical and eco-damaging practices, the antithesis has (finally) emerged. These are companies that strive to be transparent in their practices, leave little to no carbon footprint—and, simultaneously, still provide products that are stylish, yet eco-conscious; companies like Amour Vert is part of that movement. Linda Balti, co-founder (with husband Christoph Frehsee) recently spoke with us about the company's French, aesthetic and how they're continuing to help the planet.
What is the inspiration behind and aim of Amour Vert?
When I discovered that fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world, we knew that something had to change. Amour Vert was founded on the belief that great fashion and social responsibility can coexist.
How would you describe the French aesthetic?
It’s about approaching whatever ensemble you decide on with self-assurance and a sense of ease, trusting that you will own your outfit no matter the opinion of others. Confidence should be the best accessory of not just every French woman, but every woman.
How important was it for you to create an eco-friendly brand?
What can other brands do to improve their practices? When I started Amour Vert, it wasn’t about creating just another fashion brand, no one needs another fashion brand really. It was about giving women a better option, our choices matter and smart fashion is our future. Women shouldn’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability.
What is next on the horizon for Amour Vert? Anything you can share?
We are opening our own stores so our customers can experience the brand and learn more about our ethical manufacturing processes, our super soft sustainable fabrics, and our eco-friendly dyes. All the things that set us apart from any other fashion brand.
