Off The Menu: Itani Ramen Makes Room For Dinner Service

Exploding in Uptown Oakland, Itani Ramen is bringing dinner to the forefront with expanded services starting at 5:00 until midnight.

What has been dubbed as the best ramen in the East Bay, Itani lives up to the hype with their hand cut noodles and even more mouthwatering bowls of miso broth. In addition to standard ramen and donburi rice bowls, the new menu includes gindara hobayaki (miso black cod grilled on magnolia leaf) and small bites like “cucumbers n’ kimchi," house-made gyoza and crispy pig ears. 

“We are building on what has worked well for us and responding to the overall popularity of what guests have loved at the restaurant,” said Itani in a statement.

“We’re thankful for the support from the local community and our regulars. Now over a year in, we’ve been able to get to know what locals and visitors want and we’re addressing those things with the updates we’ve made to the restaurant.”

The back of house will also accommodate 20 seated and 30 standing guests during the dinner rush. This fall, Itani Ramen expects to have a full liquor license and will expand its bar program from its current selection of sake, shochu, and draft beer.

"Itani Ramen is my expression of Japanese ramen culture here in Oakland," owner Kyle Itani said to us, "I set out to mirror the Japanese ramen experience, one where a bowl of ramen is affordable, served quickly, and always soulful and satisfying. I see ramen in Japan as a creative outlet for chefs working within the constraints of a cuisine mired in tradition. Through my travels I’ve been inspired by the evolution of ramen; each prefecture offers a unique twist, celebrating their local ingredients and representing the best the seasons have to offer."
