A big WOOHOO to independent makers, Julia Lemke who was featured in our Holiday Gift Guide, is opening her first store front in the former Revolver on Fillmore St.
Though still called Totem, Julia will be renaming the space on March 1st when the space officially opens. The former shop of fine Bay Area wares, Revolver, has had a special 8 years in their space and is excited to pass the baton of Julia and her endeavors. Co-owner Valerie Hirsch told Hoodline, "The store has been open for eight amazing years, and we are so grateful to the Lower Haight neighborhood for supporting us for that long." Both Valerie and her biz partner Marta Fernandez also own Voyager shop on Valencia St. and in Los Angeles. The two felt that the store had it's run and with major success, but now ramping up Voyager and coming into their own families (both who are pregnant)—the timing felt right. Julia, who was a former employee of Revolver in it's earlier days, says to Hoodline that "her brand was birthed at the store nearly 6 to 7 years ago." To her, it holds a sentimental place in her heart.
To get to know her brand, however, is getting to know the beauty of nature in Northen California. We wrote about Julia last December as we featured her brass spoons as a must-give gift for the season. Everything from home gifts to delicately made jewelry, Julia designs a gorgeous collection of homeware and jewelry inspired by natural forms, simplicity, and traditional craft. Each piece of ceramics is made by hand with high-fire durable stoneware.
// We reached out for a comment by Julia but didn't receive anything at the time of publishing. We will update the story as we get a response from her. 136 Fillmore St, Duboce Triangle, totem-totem.co. Header photo by Luke Beard.
