Boss women, boss brunch.
We see the evidence of Planned Parenthood’s outreach both on local and national levels—and especially now, support for the organization is critical. La Cocina—a nonprofit based in the ever-evolving yet economically vulnerable Mission District—works locally with Planned Parenthood entities. They focus on supporting women of color and in immigrant communities to develop their own food businesses, helping them break into an industry known for its notoriously high upfront costs.
Having the financial and organizational support to start and sustain a food business can help these women share their passions for cuisine and contribute to a thriving community here in San Francisco.
So, why not get to know more about these organizations and support their endeavors through a charity brunch hosted by Mourad? A Northern California-meets-Moroccan restaurant in SoMa, the Brunch assortment is bound to be plentiful.
Chickpea panisse, lamb tartare tartelettes anyone?
Chef Mourad himself will demo how to prepare shakshuka. Oyna Natural Foods, Mama Lamees, and Reems California, all women-owned businesses supported by La Cocina, will also be serving their own brunch specialties—a true testament to the work that La Cocina is doing for the San Francisco community. To top it all off, even the boozy beverages are from women-run businesses - Springboard Wine Company, Uphold Wines, and Iron Horse Vineyards. How rad is it that Mourad is putting this all together for such worthy causes?
So if you want your Sunday afternoon to have flavorful Moroccan dishes, locally-made specialties and wines from women-run businesses, then head on over to Mourad. Eating, drinking, and supporting nonprofits on a Sunday sounds a lot better than a Netflix binge, am I right?
Future is Female Brunch at Mourad will be Sunday, June 11th, from 12:00p.m. to 2:00 p.m; the $100 tickets get you unlimited food, wine, and specialty cocktail. (But don't forget to tip, as well!)
// All proceeds benefit Planned Parenthood and La Cocina // Mourad Restaurant, 140 New Montgomery St Suite 1, SoMa, get tickets here.
