East Texas Treatment and Multi-use Facility is a minimum-security prison for addiction recovery and therapy treatment programs to help residents overcome serious addiction problems. Both males and females are inmates in this facility and are classified as Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) offenders, Substance Abuse offenders, and probation or parole inmates.

Special Treatment Programs at the East Texas Treatment and Multi-use Facility

There are three main special training programs undertaken at the East Texas Treatment and Multi-use Facility – Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) Recovery Program, Special Needs Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility (SAFPF), and Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF).

The Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) Recovery Program is 30 days to 12 months program. 

The Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility (SAFPF) is a six-month program followed by a period of aftercare; the special needs offender program lasts nine months aftercare. 

The Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF) is a 45 days program for inmates that need cognitive-behavioral treatment and 90 days for those who need a brief substance use treatment.

Other educational programs such as adult primary education, General Educational Development, life skills, computer training, resume writing, occupational therapy, and reading horizons are also undertaken for the inmates; and other additional programs such as chaplaincy services, relapse prevention, speech therapy, faith-based dormitory, smoking cessation, parenting classes, behavioral enhancement programs, cognitive treatment, practical money skills, trauma recovery, specialized individual counseling, and peer education.

The East Texas Treatment and Multi-use Facility have nine buildings spread over 41 acres of land. Dormitory-style housing units are constructed at both ends, and the central area is for administration, food services, a warehouse, a medical center, and a 40-bed particular housing unit. Each dorm has basic furniture, a shower facility with privacy, a restroom, and common areas. 

Recreational areas are located in the compound, including a gym, an activity center, arts and crafts room, and an outside recreational area. In addition, there is a religious room, food service area, laundry room, maintenance room, and visitation rooms.

Woven wire fences surround the perimeter, an electronic intrusion system, an armed vehicle patrolling the area 24X7, and more than 350 CCTV cameras are placed all over the area to supervise and monitor the inmates. In addition, a control center monitors all the traffic that enters and exits the facility.
